Never underestimate the enduring appeal of beer – the oldest and most natural beverage known to humankind. As far back as seven thousand years ago, the Assyrians of Mesopotamia were producing beer. Remarkably, the raw materials they utilized (barley, hops, yeast, etc.) have remained consistent to this day.

HOW TO PROPERLY POUR A BEER

We’d like to share with you the Belgian-Dutch tapping guidelines that we follow when pouring lager beer.

Every glass, already cleaned, should be further degreased and rinsed each time to eliminate any impurities from the interior. By doing this, the gas propelling the beer from the keg to the tap won’t encounter any obstacles within the glass. As it is lighter than both beer and foam, it will rise to the surface, allowing us to remove it using a foam cutter. As a result, the beer will be less carbonated and even more digestible. Additionally, we’ll create an attractive foam head to protect the beer and prevent oxidation. With a perfectly poured beer, you’ll notice the lacing on the glass left behind by the foam with each sip. Foam is equally important in other pouring techniques as well.

The Anglo-Saxon hand-pump technique involves using a manual motion on the tap to draw beer from the keg up to the faucet. As a result, the beer in the pint will be notably “flat,” especially since no gas is utilized in this method.

The Gaelic-Irish method involves pouring beer with the addition of a carbon-nitrogen mix. This combination of carbon dioxide and nitrogen results in an exceptionally persistent and creamy foam that can last for several minutes. Sample a Stout, and you’ll understand the difference. In Central-Eastern European countries, the Alpine-German technique is employed.

This pouring method involves three separate stages, allowing the foam to settle between each pour and periodically topping up the glass. This technique creates an attractive cap of foam that extends beyond the rim of the glass.

As demonstrated, all pouring techniques share the same goals: to remove gas from the glass and create an appropriate foam head, preventing beer oxidation.

By employing the proper pouring technique, you’ll be able to fully appreciate all the flavors and aromas that the beer has to offer. As a result, your beer-drinking experience and food-beer pairings will become even more enjoyable and captivating.

Allow us to guide you in selecting the ideal beer for that specific moment or recommend the perfect pairing with your chosen dish. The Birreria Bunker staff will be delighted to guide you through the fascinating world of BEER.

Step 2

Step 4

Step 5
